When you think of scuba diving or snorkelling in Queensland, your first thought is probably the Great Barrier Reef.
However, Bargara is actually one of the best destinations in Queensland outside of the vaunted Great Barrier Reef for Scuba Diving or snorkelling experiences, not only are there some great shore diving locations but some fantastic wrecks and reefs as well.
Barolin Rock and Woongarra Marine Park are two of the most exciting spots to explore what lies below the waves.
Cochrane Artificial Reef in Woongarra Marine Park offers a variety of sites just off the coast from Bargara, Elliot Heads or Riverview in the Bundaberg region. Explore the 33 metre wreck 'Ceratadus II' (Sand Dredge), two Mohawk aircraft, King Air aircraft, a water tower with huge concrete modules, pipes and other submerged structures. There are manta rays, dolphins, pelagics, friendly estuary dolphins as well.
For guided trips or diving courses, consider Bundaberg Aqua Scuba and 3D Adventures, both of which offer great shore dives and exciting four-day open-water diving courses.
The Barolin Rock shore dive site is great, providing plenty of colourful hard and soft corals to explore only a few metres from the shore. You’re also guaranteed to see small to medium sized species of reef fish and many other exciting marine animals, rays, turtles and even sharks.
Experienced divers will love to dive at Lady Musgrave Island - tour company Dive Musgrave offers three day trips to Lady Musgrave and the Bunker group of islands - offering incredible diving opportunities.
